SANTA CRUZ D PRE WAR
This dramatic sounding model was designed to introduce the superior sound of Santa Cruz Guitars to players that had been afraid to touch them. SCGC’s reputation for relentless quality and attendant high prices kept many from even trying one out. The Pre-War Model was okay to approach, not inexpensive but not completely intimidating either. Given the opportunity to hear a truly sophisticated guitar, perhaps for the first time, players experienced a paradigm shift in what they thought possible. The D/PW’s powerful volume, overtones and rich presence is an epiphany to the uninitiated. There are no unnecessary design features on this model, simply the finest materials treated to SCGC’s state of the art lutherie. This instrument is the best value to be had in a professionally hand made guitar, period. Includes a Santa Cruz hard case.View full product details
If we don’t continue to tell the stories of the past, they will no longer be remembered. Don Edwards understands this, and has devoted his life to keeping the lyrics and lore the old west alive and well in the mind and hearts of America. 2011 marks the 50th anniversary in the music business for this most beloved cowboy poet and balladeer, and in honor of this career milestone, Santa Cruz Guitar Company is thrilled to debut the Don Edwards Signature Model Guitar. SCGC’s Richard Hoover and Don worked together to create this all Mahogany 12-fret OO with the cowboy singer in mind. A slotted headstock with the vintage script Santa Cruz logo, ivoroid/tortoise/ivoroid rosette, simple black purfling, custom sunburst and gold, 3-on-a-plate Waverly tuners with Snakewood knobs all come together with a classic lone star and Don’s signature inlayed on the fingerboard. With its warmth, presence and sophisticated complexity, this is the trusty sidekick that you’ve always wanted.View full product details
Santa Cruz is thoroughly represented in television, film and top 40 hits of most genres by first call session aces. The celebrity front man usually sports an instrument on stage that is supplied by the brand with the biggest artist relations budget. But when it comes to their recordings, only the best guitar and player will do. Santa Cruz has provided the top studio professionals with style specific customizations for decades. The FireFly concept: Current technology has allowed artists to lay down tracks from remote locations creating a need for a sophisticated guitar that travels well and still delivers a professional performance. Some impartial observations from Guitar Player Magazine: “I’ve never reviewed a guitar that caused so many people to utter some variation on the phrase, “This might be the best guitar I’ve played in my life.” “This isn’t just the best small bodied guitar that I’ve played in years – this is one of the best guitars I’ve ever played period.”View full product details
SANTA CRUZ H/13
What’s up with thirteen frets? The historical precedent for this classic shape was the Gibson ‘Nick Lucas Special’ from the 1920′s and ’30′s, the one Bob Dylan holds in early photos. The “H” designation is an acknowledgement to the guardian of the lore of all things vintage and stringed, Maestro Paul Hostetter, who commissioned SCGC to build the prototype in 1978. In spite of the question of whether the historic 13 frets to the body had any basis in acoustic science, our reason for using it does. SCGC’s concept for the H-13 is to achieve power beyond what would be expected in a small-bodied guitar. Two fundamental lutherie tricks make this possible: a longer string length (more downward pressure at the saddle) and more air space via a deeper body (increased volume and bass response). To place the bridge in the optimal position for power and maintain the longer string length, the neck needs to join the body at the 13th fret. Cool, huh? This is a gorgeous classic with power and presence expected from a much larger instrument. Perfect for aggressive fingerstyle blues and vocal accompaniment, the H-13 feels really sweet to hold.View full product details
SANTA CRUZ OM GRAND
Richard Hoover, SCGC’s founding luthier, calls the classic OM design “the most sophisticated sounding steel string guitar that modern luthiery has achieved”. SCGC’s new OM Grand model is a bigger, lusher, louder sister to their extremely popular interpretation of the world renowned OM design. In comparison, the OM Grand embodies the same elegance, only in increased quantity of volume, projection and bass. More isn’t necessarily better, though in the context of a band’s competing acoustic instruments the ‘more’ of the OM Grand assures the guitars rightful dominance in the ensemble.
In preparing the templates for this new body size, Richard saw this enhanced sized OM as a fine addition to the stellar line-up of SCGC standard models, and the concept of the OM Grand was born. The strength of the OM Grand isn’t limited to sheer volume. In the sometimes restrained presence of solo fingerstyle playing, the inherent power of this guitar will generate a forceful bloom, requiring less effort with no loss of nuance. The best available tone woods are selected, voiced and tuned, as they are on all SCGC models. These include Indian Rosewood, responsibly harvested from the highest quality timbers, Sitka Spruce from British Colombia and premium Mahogany from sustainable resources.
SANTA CRUZ VINTAGE ARTIST
Doc Watson, who owned the prototype of the Vintage Artist, said, “This is the Dreadnought I’ve been looking for all my life.” In 1991, Richard Hoover collaborated with vintage experts to identify the most desirable qualities of the iconic Pre-War D-18. Maestro Watson’s contributions to the concept were born of an appreciation of the clarity of Mahogany’s tone and his requirements for playability. At the time, Doc had put as many hours into Rockabilly on a Les Paul as he had on the Dreadnought. His lack of preoccupation with a particular vintage model played perfectly with SCGC’s philosophy to ‘combine, not copy.’ After Doc’s test pilot duties on the prototype, he offered this thoughtful testimonial: “Son, what do I have to do to keep this guitar?”
We present this instrument as the tonal equal and technical superior to the most respected Pre-War guitars. To achieve the characteristic EQ and tone of the legendary Doc Watson, aka ‘the Vintage Artist,’ this instrument features an advanced, scalloped X-bracing for powerful bass, complimented by the clear tone and definition of master grade Mahogany. Comes with a Santa Cruz hard case.View full product details
