The King of the Hill! We have not had a great deal of these awesome acoustic electric guitars through lately . They are very rare indeed. This Cole Clark features a great Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides. It is a very cool looking guitar and has a massive tone. A great live instrument! PLEK machines are built and sold by A+D Gitarrentechnologie of Berlin, Germany. The machines were developed by musician and guitar instructor Gerd Anke with his partner Michael Dubach, who called their company PLEKTRON when it was founded in 1990. The goal of the PLEK process they created is to guarantee the best possible string action for each instrument. Simply put, a guitar with optimized playability sounds better. The strings do not strike the frets during playing and any intonation problems that may occur due to too-low string action are eliminated. Similarly, action that’s too high is also a thing of the past with PLEKing.
The PLEKing process is done by CNC (computer numerical control) machines, which use microprocessors to perform their tasks. That doesn’t mean human craftspeople are excluded from this process. The PLEK machine is ultimately a tool to reduce variances between guitars, which allows Cole Clarks expert builders to do their jobs more efficiently.
The Guild Custom Shop presents the beautifully crafted and rich-sounding Orpheum series “Slope 12” dreadnought acoustic. U.S.-built by the talented luthiers of the Shop,Guild Custom Shop Orpheum series models are designed to stylishly evoke the bygone 1930s-era golden age of U.S. acoustic guitar design and construction. Indeed, you could say that Orpheum models are finely crafted Guild guitars that never were but could have been. The Slope 12 offers a distinctive difference for the discerning player—sloping shoulders that gracefully curve away from the neck in marked contrast to conventional straight-shoulder dreadnought design. Further, its three-piece mahogany/rosewood/mahogany neck joins the body at the 12th fret, contributing to an abundantly complex yet warm and balanced tone that makes it ideal for flat picking and finger-style playing.
Premium features also include an Adirondack red spruce top with scalloped red spruce bracing, solid mahogany back and sides, traditional hot hide-glue construction, soft-“V” neck profile, 20-fret ebony fingerboard with pearl-dot inlays and 12″ radius, bone nut, elegant cream body binding, and a nitrocellulose lacquer neck finish. Other features include a tortoiseshell pickguard, pyramid-style ebony bridge with bone saddle and pins, Guild-logo Gotoh SE-700 open-back tuners with cream buttons. Cary Pedicini works from his purpose built workshop set amongst the vineyards of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula renown not only for its world class wines but also for its stable climatic conditions, ideal for the fine art of the luthier. Cary’s musical influences originate from both his mother Angela, a gifted soprano, and his uncle Leon La Gruta, principal violinist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years. Having studied violin from an early age Cary turned to the classical guitar, inspired by his experience of hearing the great John Williams in rehearsal with the MSO in the early 70’s. During his training as an Industrial Designer Cary continued studying classical guitar under Jochen Schubert in Melbourne and although not destined for a career as a professional musician these early influences would eventually lead to his career as a professional guitar luthier. It was also during his student days that Cary developed his skills in the traditional art of French polishing whilst working for one of Melbourne’s foremost antique importers.
Cary began making his first guitar in 1978 but it would a few decades until he had the opportunity to turn his attention full time to this art. The fortunate circumstance of living close to the internationally renowned Australian luthier, Richard Howell has no doubt been one of the strongest influences on Cary’s development. Richard Howell has inspired and nurtured the art of handcrafted guitar making with many of Australia’s finest luthiers. His willingness to share his knowledge and understanding in particular of the great Spanish masters has been one of the most profound influences on Cary’s approach to his craft.
Another important influence for Cary has been his association and friendship with Chris Wynne of Thomas Lloyd Guitars whose passion for exploring the potential of Australian tonewoods in traditional and contemporary guitar construction has pioneered a new path for the modern day luthier. Cary attributes Chris’ ability to create a learning community amongst Melbourne luthiers as one of the great legacies that will ensure the art of the guitar luthier remains vibrant in this part of the world.
