Our customer of the day is Joe from Manhattan, New York City. Three weeks ago Fiona Trembath from Melbourne came in to the store to buy a new classical guitar. It was to be for a homeless man named Joe who she had recently met in New York when she was there visiting her son. Fiona and her family incredibly raised enough money to get Joe off the streets and into a room in Queens. They have also helped him to find a part-time job to pay the rent. Up until this point he had been living on the streets of NY for several years.
Joe also plays classical guitar and busks in NY to supplement his income. The new guitar was stage two (unbeknown to Joe) of the fund-raising exercise. Fiona's son, Alex, was to take the guitar back to the States and give it to Joe as a surprise. Yesterday Alex braved a record New York blizzard to meet up with Joe in a cafe and present him with this beautiful new Katoh MCG115S classical guitar. They promised us a photo when it happened and here it is.
As expected, Joe couldn't believe it and was incredibly moved by the moment. He has since told Fiona, "I've been getting myself in trouble by neglecting snow shoveling duty to play as I can't put it down! Thank you so much. I will work on a piece to play for you when you come to NYC in April. Thank you for this work of art!".
What an amazing act of kindness by Fiona & Alex. Congratulations to you all...you did it!
Gauge means nothing. Tension means everything. Santa Cruz strings...have you tried 'em?
The exceptional Waterloo series, handmade by Collings Guitars. Although they may look similar, each one of these guitars are braced differently for a different voicing. If you're after that 'just hopped a train' depression-era old school tone, these are the guitars for you. Our customer of the day is Gareth Hughes. Life can be tough as a left-hander. Finding your dream guitar can be difficult when you can't try it first or it only exists as right-handed. Gareth decided to design his dream guitar himself. This is an absolutely stunning left-handed Santa Cruz H-13. It is built from classic Spruce/Mahogany tonewoods, along with some personalised specs such as dark body binding and a gorgeous sunburst. What can we say Gareth? It's a masterpiece. Congratulations!
