It's hard to beat the historical authenticity of the Gibson Memphis 1961 ES-330TD Figured VOS hollowbody electric guitar. This guitar's fully hollow body really shouts, exhibiting solid mids and a sizable helping of high-end bite. Two P-90 single-coil pickups yield a cutting growl with enough output to push your amp. The 1961 ES-330's highly playable Slim 1961 neck profile feels smooth and comfortable in your hand. Built to period-correct specs, including the iconic "Mickey Mouse-ears" body shape, the Gibson Memphis 1961 ES-330TD Figured VOS is the closest thing to owning an extremely rare hollow-body electric guitar.

The ES-330 has been around since its release in 1959. The guitar shares the same fully hollow construction and dual P-90 pickups as the popular Epiphone Casino (which Gibson owns), but the ES-330 was actually first to the party. The guitar's resonant nature adds warmth and an extremely lively timbre to the tone of this 1961 ES-330TD Figured VOS. And the two P-90 pickups give you more cut than standard humbuckers but also allow for more low-mid warmth than may be expected from single-coil pickups. It's easy to see why players such as the Beatles and Gary Clark Jr. have favored this design for decades.

The Gibson Memphis 1961 ES-330TD Figured VOS is fitted with two P-90 pickups. Gibson's first successful single-coil pickup, the P-90 can be heard on countless classic recordings. By virtue of their biting treble and high output, and the P-90s clean up nicely when you roll back your guitar's volume pot. And when you hit your amp hard, the P-90 really wails. It's an amazingly versatile pickup (more so, arguably, than most humbuckers).

Allan Bull 'Evo' Model Classical Guitar

This is the new Allan Bull 'Evo' model. Big sound, great tone and sustain in a new, innovative package. The look is unconventional but the sound is all classical guitar.

This guitar has a shorter 640mm scale and a smaller body than its more traditional big brother, but it loses nothing in terms of volume, sound quality and sustain. The 10mm reduction in scale length and reduced body dimensions improves playability, particularly for those whom smaller stature or hand span can cause comfort issues with a standard size 650mm scale guitar .

The split, forward sound hole design, together with the player's port and asymmetric bracing combine to achieve a balanced sound with strong bass, generous mid-range and rounded focused trebles. The "through-the-soundboard" string anchorage eliminates the need for a conventional bridge and reduces soundboard weight for improved efficiency.

The guitar has a light-weight Engelmann spruce soundboard and highly figured tiger myrtle back and sides with armrest bevel. The back is brace-less. 1968 was a transitional year for Fender amps, with tone that was still pure Fender, but a look that was brand new. With a silver-and-turquoise front panel and classy aluminum "drip edge" grille cloth trim, the Vibrolux Reverb received a fresh new face as it remained the compact, gig-ready amp of choice for pros and amateurs everywhere. The 1968 Vibrolux Reverb featured a unique 2x10 speaker configuration, which delivered snappy twang and big tube tone, while still incorporating world-class Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Vibrolux Reverb has been the go-to amp for classic Fender tone. The ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender’s late-’60s “silver-face” amps. In a special twist, both channels boast reverb and tremolo, and the “custom” channel has a modified Bassman tone stack that gives modern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. U.S.-built by the talented luthiers of the Shop,Guild Custom Shop Orpheum series models are designed to stylishly evoke the bygone 1930s-era golden age of U.S. acoustic guitar design and construction. Indeed, you could say that Orpheum models are finely crafted Guild guitars that never were but could have been. The Slope 12 offers a distinctive difference for the discerning player—sloping shoulders that gracefully curve away from the neck in marked contrast to conventional straight-shoulder dreadnought design. Further, its three-piece mahogany/rosewood/mahogany neck joins the body at the 12th fret, contributing to an abundantly complex yet warm and balanced tone that makes it ideal for flat picking and finger-style playing.

Pedicini Handmade Australian Classical Guitar

Cary Pedicini works from his purpose built workshop set amongst the vineyards of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula renown not only for its world class wines but also for its stable climatic conditions, ideal for the fine art of the luthier.  Cary’s musical influences originate from both his mother Angela, a gifted soprano, and his uncle Leon La Gruta, principal violinist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years.  Having studied violin from an early age Cary turned to the classical guitar, inspired by his experience of hearing the great John Williams in rehearsal with the MSO in the early 70’s.  During his training as an Industrial Designer Cary continued studying classical guitar under Jochen Schubert in Melbourne and although not destined for a career as a professional musician these early influences would eventually lead to his career as a professional guitar luthier.  It was also during his student days that Cary developed his skills in the traditional art of French polishing whilst working for one of Melbourne’s foremost antique importers.

Cary began making his first guitar in 1978 but it would a few decades until he had the opportunity to turn his attention full time to this art.  The fortunate circumstance of living close to the internationally renowned Australian luthier, Richard Howell has no doubt been one of the strongest influences on Cary’s development.  Richard Howell has inspired and nurtured the art of handcrafted guitar making with many of Australia’s finest luthiers. His willingness to share his knowledge and understanding in particular of the great Spanish masters has been one of the most profound influences on Cary’s approach to his craft.

Another important influence for Cary has been his association and friendship with Chris Wynne of Thomas Lloyd Guitars whose passion for exploring the potential of Australian tonewoods in traditional and contemporary guitar construction has pioneered a new path for the modern day luthier.  Cary attributes Chris’ ability to create a learning community amongst Melbourne luthiers as one of the great legacies that will ensure the art of the guitar luthier remains vibrant in this part of the world.

Based on a 1939 D-18 in our museum, this guitar features genuine mahogany back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, using an authentic circa 1939 bracing pattern. Collings Waterloo Series Jumbo King Sunburst X-Brace Acoustic Guitar

Full-bodied in both tone and stature, the aptly nicknamed "Jumbo King” is the largest size offering in the Waterloo line and a modern day tribute to jumbo-sized guitars of the early 1940s. Originally manufactured by Regal for the mail-order enterprise Montgomery Ward, this slope-shoulder body size was designed to provide performers of the era with enough volume and power for professional radio work. The WL-JK accomplishes this and more by employing a full five-inch body depth and a slightly narrow waist to enhance both the bass and treble response.

The WL-JK is available in a minimally appointed “standard” version as well as a “deluxe” version featuring added bindings, true-to-era "valve cover" tuners, and a full-body sunburst finish. Both models utilize vintage inspired x-bracing and prominent v-shaped necks with fully adjustable truss rods.

Cool as school, the WL-12 is a new variation on the flagship WL-14 that brings together the elements of maple back and sides, vintage x-bracing, and 12-fret construction to create an entirely new Waterloo experience. By joining the neck to the body at the 12th fret, the bridge is positioned closer to the center of the lower bout, producing a rich and open tone with stronger low end response than you would typically expect from a parlor-sized guitar. Taylors maple/spruce Grand Auditorium acoustic electric has always been a versatile performer, and this edition boasts an array of tone-enhancing refinements that transform maple’s tone profile into a richer, warmer and more complex voice. As a result, players can expect an even more dynamic and expressive musical tool. Design nuances include a maple-specific back bracing profile and a special seasoning process for the spruce top called torrefaction, a method of roasting the wood to produce an aged tonal character with greater acoustic resonance and responsiveness. Other touches include the use of protein glues to optimize the tonal transfer between key wood components and an ultra-thin, 3.5-mil gloss finish to minimize dampening. PLEK machines are built and sold by A+D Gitarrentechnologie of Berlin, Germany. The machines were developed by musician and guitar instructor Gerd Anke with his partner Michael Dubach, who called their company PLEKTRON when it was founded in 1990. The goal of the PLEK process they created is to guarantee the best possible string action for each instrument. Simply put, a guitar with optimized playability sounds better. The strings do not strike the frets during playing and any intonation problems that may occur due to too-low string action are eliminated. Similarly, action that’s too high is also a thing of the past with PLEKing.

The PLEKing process is done by CNC (computer numerical control) machines, which use microprocessors to perform their tasks. That doesn’t mean human craftspeople are excluded from this process. Doc Watson, who owned the prototype of the Vintage Artist, said, “This is the Dreadnought I’ve been looking for all my life.” In 1991, Richard Hoover collaborated with vintage experts to identify the most desirable qualities of the iconic Pre-War D-18. Maestro Watson’s contributions to the concept were born of an appreciation of the clarity of Mahogany’s tone and his requirements for playability. At the time, Doc had put as many hours into Rockabilly on a Les Paul as he had on the Dreadnought.
