Gary Southwell Classical No. 48 'German Spruce / Brazilian Rosewood' Preowned 1988

Available at Acoustic Centre Melbourne

English luthier Gary Southwell is renowned for his mastery in guitar making, established Southwell Guitars in 1983 and his meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to quality have made his instruments highly sought after by discerning musicians across genres, from classical virtuosos like John Williams and Julian Bream to popular artists like Sting and Paul Simon.

This exceptional 1988-built instrument features a top crafted from premium German spruce, renowned for its exceptional resonance and tonal clarity. The back and sides are constructed from multi-piece Brazilian rosewood, prized for its rich, complex tonal characteristics and stunning aesthetic appeal. The top is braced with traditional fan struts, along with an additional slanted transverse bar positioned in front of the bridge, enhancing the guitar's structural integrity and tonal response.

Built in 1988, this stunning guitar has general playwear on the top of the guitar (with grain beginning to show through the french-polished finish around the soundhole), as well as general patina on the back and sides of the guitar. It's just had a full service and restoration by Jim Matheas, and is playing wonderfully.

This preowned Gary Southwell Classical No. 48 represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of guitar-making history. With its exquisite tonewoods, masterful construction, and distinguished pedigree, this guitar offers exceptional playability and sonic richness, making it a treasured instrument for any guitarist seeking uncompromising quality and timeless elegance. Includes non-original hardshell case.
