Gibson ES-175 Preowned 1963

Available at Acoustic Centre Melbourne

Includes Hardshell Case

The Gibson ES-175 debuted in 1949 as a mid-level laminated top alternative to the L-5 model and as an electric version of the L-4. It was also the first Gibson electric to feature a stylish Florentine cutaway. The model's name is derived from its original selling price of US$175.From its introduction, the Gibson ES-175 quickly became the most popular jazz guitar ever made. Fast, clean and road-ready, the 175 has been the workhorse of touring players and studio musos from Joe Pass to Pat Metheny and Steve Howe.

This 1962-built guitar is in stunning, showroom condition - there's barely any crazing or lacquer wear, and minimal playwear. The original wiring has been replaced at some point, with the pickups replaced with modern Gibson Burstbuckers, and the tailpiece has been replaced with a chrome reproduction. The tuner heads may have been replaced, but the machine heads themselves appear original and unmolested. The pickguard appears original but in incredibly good condition, so it could be a very good reproduction or just a sign of how well this guitar has been cared for. There's a very small gap appearing at the neck heel, but the neck is rock solid and doesn't appear to have been repaired or removed at any point - we don't see this becoming an issue in the future.

It plays beautifully, and all the classic ES-175 tones are there - it's warm, woody and imperious, an absolutely fantastic example of why these early Gibson archtops are sought after. It also includes the original Lifton case, in well used but perfect working condition!
