Gibson Les Paul Signature Preowned Circa 1974

Available at Acoustic Centre Melbourne

Acoustic Centre proudly presents a rare find: the Gibson Les Paul Signature Model from 1974, perfectly seasoned with a vintage vibe.

Released in 1973 as part of Gibson’s innovative Low Impedance instrument series, alongside the Les Paul Personal and Les Paul Recording models, the Les Paul Signature marked a departure from traditional Les Paul designs. Its thinline, semi-hollow body and Goldtop finish gave it a unique, offset silhouette akin to Gibson’s famous thinline instruments of the era.

Despite being ahead of its time, the Les Paul Signature was discontinued by 1978, only to see a resurgence in recent years due to its lightweight construction and versatile tonal capabilities. Approximately 1500 units were produced, with the majority in classic Goldtop and a smaller number in Sunburst finish.

Crafted with a thinline, semi-hollow body and a three-piece Mahogany neck akin to Gibson’s ES-335, the Les Paul Signature features a bound Rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. Its electronics were revolutionary for the time, boasting twin low impedance humbuckers controlled by volume and tone knobs, a three-way switch, phase switch, and a unique 3-way resistance control for extensive tone shaping. Dual input jacks allowed simultaneous routing to an amplifier and a console, making it a versatile tool for both musicians and engineers alike.

This particular guitar exhibits excellent overall condition, especailly for a factory second. Showcasing a beautifully worn Goldtop finish and vintage patina. Minor wear patches on the back add to its character.

Sonically, the Les Paul Signature delivers unparalleled versatility, from classic humbucking Les Paul tones to Strat-like nuances, thanks to its innovative electronics. Whether on stage or in the studio, this instrument stands out as a true gem for discerning musicians seeking both vintage charm and modern performance.

Features its original case, frets and hardware.
