Gretsch Custom Shop G6130-55 Grain Elevator Roundup Relic, Masterbuilt By Gonzalo Madrigal Electric Guitar

The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it.

This stunning one-of-a-kind Roundup guitar was entirely built by Master Builder Gonzalo Madrigal in the Gretsch USA Custom Shop, using incredible reclaimed pine taken from a disused grain elevator and finished with an unbelievable relic finish, for a guitar dripping with attitude and character. Other high-end features include a Genuine Mahogany C-profile neck with rosewood fingerboard, aged nitro Western Motif Inlays, script logo headstock, Seymour Duncan Dynasonic pickups, Gretsch Synchro-Sonic bridge, and 'Belt Buckle' tailpiece and studded leather trim, along with Certificate of Authenticity and Madrigal's signature on the back of the headstock.

Gonzalo Madrigal began his career with Fender Musical Instruments Corporation in 1996 on the Fender production line where he handled binding and sanding guitar bodies. A superior craftsman, he gradually made his way to the Fender Custom Shop in 2004, where he worked on various high-profile “tribute” projects, including the Fender Custom Shop Eric Clapton “Blackie” Stratocaster, Stevie Ray Vaughan “Number One” and “Lenny” Stratocaster guitars and Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster, and the EVH “Frankenstein” replica guitar, as well as the Gretsch Brian Setzer and Eddie Cochran 6120 models, the Billy Zoom Silver Jet and the G6128T-GH George Harrison “Tribute” Duo Jet.

The incredible reclaimed virgin pine used for this guitar was sourced from Old Globe Elevator Company in Superior, Wisconsin, the largest grain elevators constructed in the 19th century. When they were first harvested in the 1830’s, the Old Growth forests of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin were home to 125-250-year-old trees, including white pine. With the promising future of the grain industry, grain elevators quickly began popping up in the Twin Ports. By the 1880s, Duluth and Superior were known nationally as “Elevator Row”. Many wooden grain elevators were lost to fire during their operation. Of those that survived, most have been demolished or burned to enable redevelopment.

The pine used in this guitar was taken from those same elevators, which ran from 1887 to 1987. This tightly-grained, incredibly aged virgin white pine showcases incredible patina from its former life, adding to the character and vibe of an already masterful guitar. Includes matching, one-off, and reliced hardshell case.
