The rarely-seen Eastman / Giacomel David Grisman DG1 Mandolin is a masterpiece born from the collaboration of legendary mandolinist David Grisman and master luthier Corrado Giacomel. This exquisite instrument brings together timeless craftsmanship and modern design for mandolin enthusiasts worldwide. Records are hard to find, but there were likely only around 60 of these mandolins built!
Popular veteran performer Grisman and the instrument maker have since forged a unique friendship and business relationship, offering this breakthrough design a widespread and immediate audience this side of the Atlantic. The original J5 model he currently sports bears a substantial price tag at $12,500 USD; in addition a production capacity limited to approximately ten per year, both factors pose major acquisition barriers to all but the exclusive elite of professional players and dedicated hobbyists.
With its AAA grade highly flamed maple back-and -sides and Adirondack spruce top, the DG1 delivers a powerful and resonant tone that captures the essence of the mandolin's beauty. Crafted with meticulous precision, it boasts unique hand-carved curves and angles that not only look stunning but also provide unparalleled comfort during play. This preowned model is in great condition, aside from one small repaired (glued and cleated) crack in the top. There's a few surface-level pick scratches on the top, but the gloss finish is in great condition, accentuating the incredible timbers. The bridge has been upgraded to a Weber (the original is in the included case), the tuners have been upgraded to Rubners, and the tailpiece has been swapped for an Eastman (with the original also in the case). The tone is rich and sweet, with fantastic volume and chop, and playability is superb. For Grisman fans or those looking for a non-traditional mandolin that can compete against much more expensive brands, this is a fantastic and rare instrument! Includes original hardshell case.

Occasionally due to issues with delivering to remote or unusual destinations, we aren't able to offer free postage. We reserve the right to retract the offer if freight costs exceed 15% of your purchase. We will always notify you if there is an issue and offer a full refund or arrange alternative delivery options.
All strings and accessories will be shipped with tracking via courier or Australia Post. Other items including guitars and amplification equipment will be shipped using our courier service providers, with a tracking number and signature on delivery.
