Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab 1942 Banner J-45 'Light Aged Vintage Sunburst' Acoustic Guitar

Discover the timeless legend of the Gibson J-45 through the exquisite Murphy Lab 1942 Banner J-45 'Light Aged Vintage Sunburst' Acoustic Guitar. This instrument pays homage to the holy grail of vintage acoustics, with master luthiers in Montana meticulously crafting a J-45 that faithfully replicates the most beloved and celebrated version in structure and components. The 1942 Banner J-45 features a Thermally Aged Adirondack red spruce top, hand-sprayed with a historic-style burst, hot hide glue top bracing for enhanced tonal response, and a bone nut and saddle. Under the skilled hands of the Murphy Lab artisans, it receives a Light Aged finish treatment and lightly aged hardware, simulating decades of gentle playwear, imparting the character, vibe, and feel of an original from Gibson's Golden Era.

This Gibson Acoustic 1942 Banner J-45 Murphy Lab offers a lightly aged recreation of the iconic workhorse acoustic guitar that inspired generations of songwriters and performers. With a thermally aged red spruce top and resonant mahogany back and sides, this round-shoulder jumbo delivers a punchy, direct sound with remarkable headroom. The period-accurate mahogany neck boasts a comfortable "Historic" shape, and the rosewood fingerboard ensures effortless playability. Notable features include multi-ply binding, a multi-ply rosette, mother-of-pearl dot fingerboard inlays, and a tortoise pickguard. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish, treated with Gibson Acoustic's aging techniques, is a testament to the same craftsmanship used on Gibson Custom Murphy Lab guitars.

From legends like Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan, the J-45's famous round-shoulder design remains a favorite among acoustic players for its comfort while standing or sitting. The 1942 Banner J-45 Murphy Lab guarantees an exceptional playing experience right out of the case, making it a top choice for fingerpickers and flatpickers in the folk, country, and bluegrass traditions. The thermally aged red spruce top, achieved through torrefaction, enhances tone, durability, and ageless beauty. Gibson's rich heritage of craftsmanship, from its roots in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to its present home in Bozeman, Montana, is evident in this instrument. Crafted with the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and meticulous attention to detail, the 1942 Banner J-45 Murphy Lab is built to deliver exceptional sound and enduring quality.
