Arnold Hoyer Solist Archtop Circa 1959

Available at Acoustic Centre Melbourne

This Arnold Hoyer Solist Archtop, circa 1959, is a remarkable vintage guitar that bears the mark of superb craftsmanship and timeless beauty. Crafted during the era when Arnold Hoyer was at the helm of the company, this guitar showcases the excellence that German guitar makers like Hoyer have been known for since their inception in 1874.

Hoyer guitars, often regarded as one of Germany's best-kept secrets, truly shine in the 1950s and 1960s production period. The attention to detail in the wood selection and classic German craftsmanship is evident. The unique features, such as the German Carve on the body's perimeter and distinct f-hole designs reminiscent of Rickenbacker, make these guitars stand out as works of art and masterful craftsmanship.

The Hoyer legacy dates back to Franz Hoyer in 1874, and the family's dedication to crafting stringed instruments continued with Joseph Hoyer. After relocating to Bavaria in the post-war period, Arnold Hoyer took the reins of the company, and by the late 1940s and 1950s, Hoyer guitars had earned a reputation as premier Jazzgitarran in Germany. Many of these guitars, including the Soloist, featured semi-acoustic designs and pickups, catering to the evolving needs of musicians.

This gorgeous 1950s German archtop, with its stunning sunburst finish, exemplifies the craftsmanship and artistry of Hoyer. The Solist, one of the brand's top-of-the-line models, is entirely handcrafted from solid woods, boasting a solid spruce top and the distinctive German carve with classic f-holes. Remarkably, this vintage piece appears to be all original, from the hardware and electronics to its aesthetics, preserving its historical and sonic integrity.

Included with the guitar is the Hoyer 'Pickup Platte,' a dual single-coil pickup system with sliding rails that offer endless tonal variations. This rare vintage gem comes complete with a hardshell case, providing both protection and a touch of nostalgia.
