    Martin 000--28 Modern Deluxe

First appearances knocked me out. With all the appointments, a grand impression and character. Many of these you'd pay mucho bucks extra at Collings or S.C., i.e. torrified spruce top, protein glue, adi bracing, inlays, gold, short scale. I'm not crazy about the "gold" frets but that's a small issue. I Lots of warmth and volume. The crispness and clarity jumps out at you, even on the upper frets. Maybe lacks a little power in the high end if you're judging it against Collings, etc. but mid range and bass are splendid. Again, a small item really as the clarity is always there. I chose the 000 over the OM primarily due to the short scale on the 000. I love short scale as, in my opinion, they're just easier to play and there's a slightly added warmth to the sound I also play a fair amount of acoustic blues and it seems a bit easier to bend the strings on a short scale model. Maybe the OM model might have just a bit more punch, i.e. increased string tension. I don't know as i wasn't interested. Short scale always sells me. This is a fine guitar in any guitarist's hands, amateur or professional. Perfect guitar Probably not. I've yet to meet that beast. But........... I'll hang onto this one.
