The Gibson J-35 is a celebrated return to one of Gibson's most storied and historically significant acoustic guitar models - a slope-shouldered dreadnought first introduced during the Great Depression as an affordable alternative to the J-45 and J-200, and revived in 2017 with a specification that honours the original's working-musician character and warm, focused tonal voice. This 2015 example predates the 2017 reissue - placing it in the initial run of the modern J-35, built at Gibson's Bozeman, Montana acoustic workshop with a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, and traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing that produces the warm, woody, and naturally projecting acoustic voice that made the original J-35 such a beloved and enduring design.

The slope-shouldered body produces a distinctly different tonal character from the squared-shoulder dreadnought format - warmer and more midrange-focused, with a naturally woody, intimate projection that suits strumming and fingerpicking with equal expressiveness. LR Baggs VTC electronics provide the transparent, natural amplified acoustic tone that live performers trust, while the slim-taper neck, rosewood fingerboard, vintage-style tuners, and natural gloss nitrocellulose finish complete a guitar that is as comfortable and immediately familiar in the hand as it is satisfying to listen to.

This 2015-built guitar is in fantastic condition, with minimal playwear and a deep, warm and vintage-voiced tonality that makes it a perfect singer-songwriter's companion. It's got the classic dry, woody Gibson voice and despite it's humble origins can easily hold it's own against it's more famous siblings. A fantastic slope shoulder dreadnought with tonnes of mojo. Includes original hardshell case.

Features

  • Solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides and traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing delivers the J-35's characteristic warm, woody, and naturally projecting slope-shouldered dreadnought voice - distinctly focused and midrange-rich compared to squared-shoulder alternatives.
  • Slope-shouldered body format produces a warm, intimate, and naturally woody acoustic character with a projection and tonal balance that suits strumming, fingerpicking, and singer-songwriter performance equally well.
  • LR Baggs VTC electronics provide transparent, natural-sounding amplified acoustic performance - among the most musically honest acoustic pickup and preamp combinations available on any production instrument.
  • Slim-taper mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard delivers the comfortable, familiar Gibson acoustic playing feel suited to the J-35's broad stylistic range.
  • Natural gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish allows the tonewoods to resonate freely and age beautifully over time - contributing to the open, natural acoustic character that distinguishes a nitro-finished instrument.
