The Collings City Limits Jazz is one of the most refined and beautifully appointed thinline archtop electric guitars produced anywhere in the world today - a fully hollow instrument built in limited numbers at Collings' Austin, Texas workshop that delivers detailed, harmonically rich jazz tone in a lightweight, ultra-responsive package that rewards the most demanding players. The fully hollow Honduran mahogany body with carved European spruce top and parallel bracing produces a tonal character that is simultaneously warm and articulate - rich in harmonic complexity, highly responsive to touch and dynamics, and possessed of a natural resonance and airiness that only a truly hollow construction can deliver. The Merlot finish adds a deep, jewel-like warmth to the spruce top that is as visually compelling as any standard finish option in the CL Jazz range.
A single Lollar Johnny Smith pickup in the neck position delivers the clear, warm, and singing single-coil jazz voice that the CL Jazz format demands - arguably the most tonally appropriate pickup choice for this style of instrument, with thumbwheel 500K pots and a .047 ceramic capacitor providing refined, musical high-frequency rolloff under the bound ebony pickguard. The ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays, ivoroid-bound S-holes, deluxe flared haircut peghead with ebony veneer and MOP Collings logo and parallelograms, extra long mortise and tenon neck joint, adjustable ebony bridge and ebony tailpiece, and nickel Gotoh tuners with Collings logo reflect the level of material quality and decorative refinement that sets Collings archtop instruments apart from virtually everything else available at any price.
This 2025-built guitar is sublime in every sense. The build quality, attention to detail and finishing are second-to-none, giving it a truly refined and premium feel. The single Lollar pickup gives a surprising array of tones, with tremendous note separation and incredible harmonic complexity. It's easy to get lost in the sound, and the playability is flawless. There's some very light playwear and polishing swirls, but it's clearly been very well cared-for. Simply put - one of the finest jazz guitars available in the world, with jaw-dropping looks and premium feel. Includes original hardshell case.
