Handbuilt in September 2008 and recently rebuilt by David Worthy himself to align with his current build standards, this Sunbeam model is a superb example of Australian luthiery at its finest. The Sunbeam is a small-body, 12-fret design derived from David Worthy’s Vintage model, prized for its deep, resonant voice and exceptional sensitivity. With a Sitka spruce top paired to highly figured, quilted Queensland maple back and sides, this guitar delivers rich fundamentals, complex overtones, and a responsiveness that shines for fingerstyle playing, particularly in open tunings.
As part of its rebuild, this instrument received new bracing, new binding, a full refret, and a respray, all carried out by David Worthy to ensure it performs to his modern voicing and structural standards. The Fijian mahogany neck is reinforced with carbon fibre for stability, while the ebony fretboard and bridge contribute to clarity and articulation. Showing only light playwear and featuring one small, professionally repaired crack at the cutaway, this Sunbeam remains a refined, expressive player’s guitar, complete with a hard case.
