The Joe Gallacher Dreadnought represents genuine Australian luthier craftsmanship from a builder who has been making guitars, mandolins, and Irish bouzoukis since relocating from Scotland to Australia in 1989. Joe's dreadnoughts draw influence from fine vintage guitars he's played over the years while incorporating his own design refinements, with a deliberate preference for understated ornamentation that lets the natural beauty of carefully selected timber speak for itself. Notably, Joe avoids plastic in his bindings, nut, saddle, and glue, opting instead for traditional materials throughout.
This example pairs a Carpathian spruce top with old growth reclaimed mahogany back and sides, a combination chosen for the volume, tonal balance, and rich colour that Joe seeks in every instrument he builds. As with all of Joe's guitars, this one was shaped by hand, chisel, and decades of feel for the timber rather than mass production methods, resulting in a genuinely individual instrument with the depth and character that only handmade construction can deliver.
This preowned dreadnought is in great condition, with minimal playwear and a great medium action. Sonically, it's a little warmer and darker than your typical D-18 style build, and has great natural compression and a rich, forgiving and smooth voice that would make it a great songwriting companion. Includes hardshell case.
