The Gibson Hummingbird is one of the most beloved and instantly recognisable acoustic guitars in the world - introduced in 1960 as Gibson’s first square-shoulder dreadnought, it arrived at the dawn of a new era in popular music and was rapidly embraced by some of the most celebrated players of the following decades. The Murphy Lab 1960 Hummingbird Light Aged is Gibson Custom Shop’s most faithful and tonally authentic recreation of that original instrument - a guitar built to reflect the look, feel, and acoustic character of the finest early Hummingbirds, with Light Aging applied by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab to simulate decades of careful, loving play wear straight from the case.

The thermally aged Sitka spruce top is the defining tonal feature - heat-treated to replicate the cellular changes that occur in tonewoods over decades of natural ageing, producing a top that delivers an immediate openness, warmth, and tonal complexity well beyond what an untreated spruce top can provide from new. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing, solid mahogany back and sides, and the iconic square-shoulder Hummingbird body combine to produce the powerful, warm, and naturally projecting acoustic voice that made the original 1960 Hummingbird such an enduring instrument. Murphy Lab aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish, the iconic Murphy Lab casted Hummingbird pickguard, aged gold Gotoh tuners with keystone buttons, traditional belly-up rosewood bridge with bone saddle and pins, mother-of-pearl parallelogram fingerboard inlays, rounded mahogany neck with compound dovetail joint, and period correct hardshell case complete an instrument of extraordinary fidelity to the 1960 original.

This incredible 2024-built guitar is in superb condition, and plays, feels and sounds like a great vintage Hummingbird - it's phenomenal! It's in superb condition, and the factory relicing is incredibly close to the real thing. This is one of Gibson's greatest recreations, and a true heirloom guitar. Includes original hardshell case.
