The Martin CS-D28-12 is a genuinely rare instrument - one of only 125 built worldwide in 2012, representing Martin's Custom Shop treatment of the legendary D-28 dreadnought with a tonewood and specification upgrade that places it firmly among the most distinctive limited edition Martins of the modern era. The solid Adirondack spruce top with scalloped forward X-bracing is paired with rare Cocobolo back and sides - a dense, richly figured wood that draws visual comparisons to Brazilian rosewood and delivers a bold, forward, and harmonically complex tone with powerful projection. Martin's Custom Shop Thin Finish, 40% thinner than the standard Martin nitrocellulose lacquer, allows the solid tonewoods to vibrate with exceptional freedom, enhancing resonance and sustain.

The 14-fret mahogany neck with modified V profile and diamond volute, ebony fingerboard with abalone slotted diamond and square inlays, ebony belly bridge with long saddle, Waverly vintage-style tuners with butterbean buttons, herringbone top purfling, ivoroid body binding, and zig-zag backstripe collectively deliver a specification that honours Martin's pre-war tradition while reflecting genuine modern custom shop craftsmanship.

This 2012-built guitar is in wonderful condition, with only light playwear and a booming, authoritative voice - it's a cannon! It has a great mid-scooped, vintage tone with piano-like bass and incredible harmonics, and enough headroom for the absolute hardest of strummers. A superb and rarely-seen D-28 with premium upgrades. Includes original hardshell case.
