Martin Retro Monel Acoustic Guitar Strings

Martin Retro strings are the real deal. Not an imitation. With Martin Retro strings, you get one tough set that offers true, consistent tone and sounds like nothing else on the market. Martin’s solid nickel/copper alloy blend provides a reduced pick attack that allows the guitar’s tonewoods to be heard, not overshadowed. Martin’s proprietary Monel wrap wire is naturally corrosion resistant, so you can play them for a long time with nothing to get in the way of your music. Discover your guitar’s true voice. Retro strings offer enhanced longevity with warm natural tone, and they sound great plugged in.

    Martin Retro strings

The guitar that I wanted to try the Martin 12-54 Retro strings on is a rare 1987 Takamine G330, a Martin D18 reproduction. The Retro strings certainly lived up to their design brief, ie bringing the pure sound of older guitars to life. The G330 now has great balance across the base to treble, great intonation and fabulous sustain and resonance. The Retro strings are kind to the fingers and hold their tune very well, especially in Melbourne's changeable weather. I will use them all the time on this great vintage Takaimine guitar. Mark.

    Always helpful with advice

I have appreciated the way the staff have given their honest advice rather than just trying to make a sale.

    Excellent strings

Martin Retro strings are available in the standard gauges as well as two artist gauges; Lawrence Juber (LJ’s Choice) and Tony Rice. The latter two are 13-56 gauge strings but not as heavy overall as standard 13-56 gauge. However, 12-54 gauge strings would be an excellent choice for most players and guitars. The tone of Retro strings is more mellow than phosphour bronze strings and in many cases not as harsh or metallic. They work with the guitar rather than put their own tone on it. I use them on both rosewood and mahogany backed dreadnoughts and they sound lovely. They also last well and are comfortable to play. Give them a try!
