This and the other 651 shaped “Taylex” pick were the surprise picks (pun intended) from the Taylor Darktone Series Collectors Edition pick tin I was given last Christmas. Initially I found it a little small coming from the standard 351 shape. But the tone sounded great. Deep and warm. So I persevered for a day or so and now it’s currently my favourite pick! It’s just that little bit bigger than the ubiquitous Dunlop jazz iiis (and a bit smaller than the jazz iii XLs) and just a little less pointy. So great for precision (no real discernible flex) but glides effortlessly off the strings for strumming too. And its small size makes it so manoeuvrable that my larger picks now feel a bit clunky and unwieldy in comparison.. The Taylex version is a little brighter, a little thinner (1.25 vs 1.5mm) with ever so slight a flex and feels a little more like an ultex/ultem pick which I love for a slightly brighter more articulate tone. The only problem is that the”pro” designation on the pick hasn’t made me any more “pro” but it has improved my accuracy! Pick up a pack to try, you might be pleasantly surprised!
