Available at Acoustic Centre Melbourne

Victorian luthier David Worthy has been building exceptional instruments to order for decades, and this small-body Talisman model is a wonderful, deep-sounding fingerpicking guitar that works especially well in open tunings, similar in concept to a scaled-down jumbo shape. Like all Worthy guitars, it's built entirely by hand near Dandenong, Victoria, with hand-scalloped and tuned braces, a carbon fibre ultra-lightweight reinforced neck, a laminated tail block and Gotoh 510 tuning machines.

This 2019 custom-built example features remarkable timbers, including a rare set of Lucky Strike Redwood for the soundboard and incredibly figured Australian Blackwood back and sides. Redwood is a dark, beautiful top wood favoured by players who appreciate clear upper harmonic content, delivering bold, punchy, crisp tones with rich, strong overtones somewhere between Adirondack spruce and cedar. It's an absolute joy to play, with incredible dynamic range and touch sensitivity, and the added armrest makes it ideal for long, comfortable playing sessions.
