In the realm of electric guitarists seeking an acoustic solution on stage during the 1980s, Yamaha revolutionized the scene with the introduction of the APX series in 1987. This groundbreaking acoustic-electric guitar was designed specifically to eliminate the common challenges such as feedback issues, mic positioning headaches, and lengthy sound checks. It offered a plug-and-play experience straight from the guitar rack, delivering clarity and reliability in amplified acoustic sound like never before.
The APX series wasn't just about functionality—it catered directly to electric guitarists with features like stylish finishes, a comfortable cutaway body for easy access to higher frets, and a slim neck reminiscent of electric guitars. These design elements made the transition from electric to acoustic seamless and intuitive for stage performances.
Central to the APX's success is its exceptional sound quality, achieved through Yamaha's SRT Piezo Pickup, renowned for its natural tone, wide dynamic range, and effective feedback rejection. Paired with Yamaha's acclaimed active preamp, developed by their audio-visual division, the APX guitars deliver the professional sound quality expected from the world's leading manufacturer.
While styles have evolved over the years, the essence of the APX remains steadfast. Today's APX guitars continue to innovate with a more natural appearance, enhanced bass response and volume thanks to a deeper body design, and a new non-scalloped bracing pattern that enhances the guitar's responsiveness and dynamic range. Yamaha's commitment to quality and innovation ensures that the APX series remains a top choice for musicians seeking reliable, high-performance acoustic-electric guitars.
