The Epiphone 1961 50th Anniversary Casino is one of the most historically significant limited edition reissues Epiphone has produced - a faithful recreation of the very first Casino ever made, built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of an instrument so culturally significant that it changed the sound of popular music forever. Limited to just 1,961 units worldwide, this example is finished in the stunning Royal Tan colourway - one of only two finish options offered on this anniversary model - and recreates the original 1961 E230TD Casino in authentic detail, with appointments and features discontinued after the first year of production.
The Casino's status in rock history is without parallel among hollow-body electric guitars. When Paul McCartney went looking for a guitar that would feed back like his favourite blues records, he chose a Casino - and John Lennon and George Harrison soon followed, using their Casinos on stage and at Abbey Road through the remainder of The Beatles' career and on recordings as landmark as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Carl Wilson, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, and Keith Richards are among the countless artists who have defined their sound with this instrument. The 5-ply laminated maple and birch fully hollow body produces the clear, ringing, acoustically alive tone that made the Casino so distinctive - capable of glassy, bell-like clean tones and, when pushed, a natural, harmonically rich overdrive that a semi-hollow guitar simply cannot replicate. Gibson USA P-90 pickups, a Kalamazoo headstock with badge, Wilkinson vintage tuners with white buttons, and a period-correct trapeze tailpiece complete a reissue of genuine historical authenticity.
This 2011-built guitar is in wonderful condition, with minimal playwear and a great slinky action. It's had an aftermarket Bigsby vibrato installed, which works beautifully and completes the vintage aesthetic. An all-time classic with upgraded specs. Includes original hardshell case.
