Peter Grubb is a wonderfully talented Australian luthier, building refined and thoughtful instruments by hand in his Alphington, Victoria workshop. Designed to be responsive, dynamic instruments, PG Guitars blend traditional craftsmanship and attention to detail with luxurious appointments, incredible timbers and impeccable playability. We're very excited to be stocking Peter's guitars, and this wonderful SJ (Small Jumbo) model is a wonderful showcase for his impressive skills.
Featuring a flawless Sitka Spruce top paired with gorgeously quilted European Maple, this SJ is a fingerstylists dream. Rich with overtones that never overwhelm, it's wonderfully responsive and dynamic with a balanced, open tone with a slight natural compression. The neck is African mahogany, with ebony fretboard, bridge binding and bridge pins, a killer two-tone headplate featuring Macassar ebony and Quilted Maple, compensated bone nut and saddle, and a beautiful Macassar ebony rosette. The neck position markers and bridge pins are inlaid with brass, a minor but beautiful detail.
Playability is superb - the SJ features a 14-fret neck with florentine cutaway for easy access to the higher registers, and the fretboard has a compound radius of 12" - 20" to allow easy chording while accommodating more adventurous playing in the higher registers.
This wonderful guitar is handmade and completely one-of-a-kind, built by a talented luthier right here in our backyard. Includes Hiscox hardshell flight case.
