The Maton Messiah is an Australian icon, and has been through a few changes over the year. This 1988 model features the same all-solid Sitka Spruce and East Indian Rosewood construction as the current model, with some interesting aesthetic differences. Most notably, the gorgeously-crafted Florentine cutaway gives the guitar a refined, classic look, and the vintage-style pearloid headstock logo hearkens back to an earlier era. It features an ebony fretboard with lighter rosewood bridge, for added resonance and volume.
This 1988 guitar is in wonderful condition - the finish has aged to a deep honey colour, and the pickup has been upgraded by Maton to the latest AP5 System. There are a few small finish marks and some playwear, as you'd expect with a guitar of it's age. It plays beautifully, with a great feel and very comfortable neck. Tonally, these earlier Messiahs have a punchier, fatter tone than the modern Messiah, not dissimilar to a Martin D-28. A beautiful piece of Australian history! Includes original hardshell case.
